The Care Standard Act 2000

In November 1998 and March 1999, the government published two White Papers on its proposals for social services in England and Wales. Detailed proposals for the regulation of private and voluntary healthcare in England and for the regulation and inspection of social care and healthcare services in Wales were set out in consultation documents issued in 1999. The Government's proposals for the regulation of early years education and day care were set out in a consultation document in 1998. The recommendations and proposals for the Children's Commissioner for Wales were set out in Sir Ronald Waterhouse's Report Lost in Care, and in the report of the Health and Social Services Committee of the National Assembly for Wales on a Children's Commissioner. This Act implements the main proposals in these documents that require primary legislation.
