Railway Housing Association18 March 2008
After working together for many years, Railway Housing Association have entered into a further three year contract with Britton Price, for the maintenance of all the passenger lifts in the association’s homes. This new agreement reflects the success of the working partnership between Railway Housing Association and Britton Price Ltd. The contract was awarded following a competitive tendering process. This agreement means that Britton Price Ltd will continue to service and maintain the passenger lifts in Railway Housing accommodation schemes.

Railway Housing Association was founded originally in 1919 as the North Eastern Railway Cottage Homes and Benefit Fund to provide accommodation and financial assistance to returning war wounded railway men, their wives, widows and orphans. In response to changing demand, the association has since become a provider of social housing, predominantly for older people. Railway Housing Association has around 1,400 homes located across 30 local authority areas. The contact details for the association are:

During the lifetime of the previous Service Contract between Railway Housing and Britton Price a planned programme of lift modernisations took place. This planned year on year upgrading programme meant that Railway Housing Association was able to spread essential capital expenditure over a number of years.

The benefits of a longer term lift refurbishment programme include financial certainty, equipment is replaced before a major failure and the time that residents are without a working lift is kept to a minimum.

We consider that a Service Contract where we work with a Housing Association over a number of years is the best way forward. We are able to assess their existing stock and recommend where necessary remedial works that will keep their lifts working. The timescale and hence cost of these works may be planned to that they are spread over the life time of the agreement.
