| Insurance Company warns Chain Lift owners to consider urgent action. 22 January 2008 |
It has come to our attention that Zurich Insurance issued a letter at the end of 2007 to one of our service customers in relation to their Hammond & Champness chain lift.
The letter requests five additional tests to be carried out on the lift before it can be deemed ‘suitable for continued safe use’ and also recommends the replacement of the lift within the next two to three years.
Here at Britton Price we recognise that the cost of completely replacing a chain lift can not only be expensive but is often made increasingly difficult by the restricted shaft size which is a regular feature of the ‘chain’ type of lift.
As a result of the concerns raised by this letter we have developed two options for our chain lift customers to consider;
1. Complete modernisation of the existing lift
2. Replacement with one of our bespoke X-IM Hydraulic lifts.
The complete modernisation of the existing lift involves replacing the single speed drive unit and controller along with all associated wiring and switches. We also offer an upgrade option which would include a variable speed drive unit for a smoother ride. The lift car could then be re-lined and fitted with a modern control panel with large tactile buttons, new lighting and flooring: Giving a tired old lift a new brighter look and improved reliability.
Our X-IM hydraulic lift has been specifically designed to fit in smaller shafts. This borehole lift is powered from below by a hydraulic cylinder sunk into the shaft floor. The unique design of the X-IM provides a cost effective way of maximising your lift shafts full potential, and as it utilises the existing shaft requires no planning permission or building control approval in most cases.
Britton Price will be writing shortly to it’s existing service customers and owners of similar chain lifts ( including Alpha, Gimson and Stannah Homelifts) informing them of these facts and offering our range of solutions for these lifts.
If you would like a pdf copy of the letter from Zurich Insurance or would like to discuss modernisation options please do not hesitate to contact our sales team - email sales@brittonprice.co.uk. or telephone: 01937 849494
