LANTAC extensions from Britton Price27 November 2007
Britton Price, in association with Stott Thompson Architects, has developed a system for extending lift shafts to allow the installation of a larger lift car, in some cases bringing the lift in line with the DDA.

The lift extension system has Local Authority National Type Approval (LANTAC), giving automatic building regulation consent throughout England and Wales, allowing projects to be accurately costed and programmed at an early stage.

The method involves removing the front wall of the existing shaft, cutting back the floors, extending the side walls and forming a new front wall to the shaft. With efficient programming, the cost and down time of the lift are kept to an absolute minimum, far outweighing other options such as constructing new lift shafts.

The system relies upon cooperation and understanding between the lift installation team and the building contractors carrying out the installation work. Britton Price does this by providing a complete ‘Turnkey Package’ which includes the survey, design and building work, overseeing the whole process from inception to final completion and hand-over to the client.

LANTAC is the only organisation in the UK which specialises in developing fast track routes through the regulatory procedures for standard buildings, modular buildings or building systems. All local authorities throughout England and Wales are members of LANTAC.
Britton price would be delighted to carry out free surveys and produce proposals for installations in low rise (2-4) floor buildings.
